The paradox of the situation is that by means of technology and markets, we – citizens and consumers – are rapidly giving rise to a globalized world of tightening interdependence. However, politically and constitutionally we are opting for a world where the present and the future is managed on a national or local level. The global and local visions are in conflict with one another, as exemplified in local elections.
