Tällberg Winter Forum 2011

The 2011 Forum process started at Voksenåsen where questions and approaches were sharpened. Four important prisms were used: the Amazon, the Arctic, the Northern hemisphere – north of the 45o parallel – and East Asia.

Beautiful Voksenåsen high above Oslo in Norway was host to the Winter Tällberg Forum 2011. The objective of this gathering was to make a serious and practical inquiry into how systems solutions to systems challenges can be devised on a global scale. The high-level gathering was an important stepping-stone in the process of preparing the summer Tällberg Forum, which was held in Sigtuna, Sweden on 29 June – 3 July, 2011.

Objectives
The Winter Tällberg Forum brought together 50 leaders for a conversation on the global challenges we face. The overall theme was the perennial Tällberg question: How on earth can we live together? The objective was to make a serious and practical inquiry into how systems solutions to systems challenges (at a global scale) could be devised. In particular, the governance aspect was discussed.

Many nations are faced with unemployment and deficits, with political unrest and a loss of legitimacy for key institutions as a result. At the Winter Tällberg Forum we discussed what political and institutional changes are needed, leading us to tackle the question: How can we agree to agree?

The Winter Forum was a key step in the Tällberg Forum 2011 process. In the build-up to the Winter Forum – and to the large Forum, a number of papers connected to these issues were commissioned and presented. Some of these were subject to a first round of discussion at Voksenåsen.
