The residents of the idyllic Swedish town of Leksand had not seen anything like it in recent memory. Last week, nearly 2,000 people descended on the peaceful town, known for its stunning natural beauty, taking over public buildings from the local gym to the handsome church. Their aim: to come up with solutions on tackling youth unemployment.

Given the ambitious title of Rework the World, the Leksand summit aimed to bring together the ideas of 1,700 young people from 120 countries with the policy-makers, investors and leaders who could bring them to fruition. Organised by the Swedish-based Tällberg Foundation and Youth Entrepreneurship and Sustainability (YES), the event was billed as a concerted attempt to get to grips with poverty and development after the collapse of the financial system.
