Kofi Annan receives Tällberg Forum’s Leadership Award

Today, on the closing day of this year’s Tällberg Forum, former U.N. General Secretary Kofi Annan receives the third annual “Tällberg Leadership Award for Principled Pragmatism”. Kofi Annan receives the award for his work at the United Nations”. The prize comes with a sum of SEK 500 000 that will go to Kofi Annan’s Global Humanitarian Forum.

Kofi Annan receives the prize, the Tällberg Foundation writes in its motivation, for “staying true to his principled pragmatism throughout his ten years at the helm of the United Nations. Mr. Annan steered his course under tremendous pressures through turbulent and troubling times. With his inner calm and clarity of values, he offered African ubuntu and Nordic consensus to the negotiation tables, however not always accepted by conflicting powers.”

- Kofi Annan has emerged as one of the world’s leaders with the moral rectitude that we all need to solve our common global crises of human equity, the environment and welfare, says Bo Ekman, founder and chairman of Tällberg Forum.

The prize sum of the The Tällberg Foundation Leadership Award is of 500 000 Swedish kronor and made possible by the generous support of the Swedish Postcode Lottery, Svenska PostkodLotteriet.

- The funding generated through the Swedish Postcode Lottery goes to good causes that work toward a better and cleaner world. The contribution from the Lottery enables Kofi Annan to take concrete action using his outstanding leadership skills to create real change on the ground, says Niclas Kjellström-Matseke, CEO of Svenska PostkodLotteriet.

The award will be presented at a ceremony at the Tällberg Forum in presence of HM King Carl XVI Gustaf at 1600 on Sunday June 29. The event will be broadcast on Swedish Television’s channel SVT24.
Previous laureates of the Tällberg Leadership Award are Lord John Browne of Madingley, former Group Chief Executive of BP (United Kingdom) and Russell Ackoff, chairman of Interact (USA).
