Tällberg Foundation Fiddler Scholarship 2015

Erik Gunnars Risberg is the 2015 recipient of the Tällberg Foundation Fiddler Scholarship with the motivation: “A fiddler with a technically driven way of playing and a musical curiosity that drives him to try the violin’s many expressive means, both in Swedish folk music and other genres.”

The winner is selected by the board of Dalarnas Spelmansförbund (Dalarna’s Fiddlers Association) which is chaired by Pontus Selderman:

“A fiddler with a technically driven way of playing and a musical curiosity that drives him to try the violin’s many expressive means, both in Swedish folk music and other genres.”

“En dalaspelman med ett tekniskt drivet spel och en musikalisk nyfikenhet som driver honom att prova fiolens många olika utrycksmedel, både inom svensk folkmusik och i andra genrer.”

Erik Gunnars Risberg was born in 1991 and grew up in the small town Hedemora and moved to Leksand municipality when he started high school. After attending music schools in Hedemora and Leksand, he continued his musical career through Rytmus Music High School in Stockholm and then The Ingesund School of Music and The Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Gothenburg.

During his studies in Gothenburg, he continued to compose and play with different groups within the folk and world music genre. Here, he also developed his own bluegrass-influenced style, which gave him the opportunity to play with many great musicians. With his latest project “The Woods,” the hope is to reach a wider audience. See a video with The Woods here:
